Acid Horizon Research Commons Scholarship Policy
Overview
The Acid Horizon Research Commons is committed to making our courses accessible to a wide range of participants. For our multi-week classes, we reserve a portion of seats for scholarship recipients, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent committed learners from joining.
How It Works
As of March 2026, we have updated our scholarship policy.
Approximately one week before the launch of each course, we will open a limited number of scholarship seats. The number of available seats will depend on a variety of factors, but will generally range from one to five. At that time, an application form will be made available to free and paid subscribers on our Patreon account.
Priority will be given to long-term subscribers — free or paid — who demonstrate enthusiasm for the material and can articulate specific research goals they hope to fulfill by taking the course.
In the event that a course includes a seminar portion alongside the lecture series, scholarship recipients may be asked to contribute a presentation or short piece of writing to enrich the seminar experience.
When scholarship positions become available, we will announce them on our official social media accounts and open a short application window. Recipients will be notified privately.
Future scholarship consideration may depend upon a recipient's ability to fulfill the obligations implicit in their participation in the seminar portion of a course.
Eligibility & Application
We don't require you to share personal details about your financial situation. We simply trust that if you're applying, it's because paying full tuition would be a genuine burden. Once scholarship spots become available, we'll open a short application window and select recipients based on the criteria outlined above.
Applications will ask only for:
Your background and interest in the topic.
Your commitment to attending all sessions and participating fully.
The AHRC reserves the right to revoke any scholarship for any reason at any time.
Hardship Reserve Seats
In addition to our standard scholarship spots, we keep a small number of Hardship Reserve Seats for students experiencing extraordinary circumstances. These are intended for situations where tuition would make participation impossible due to catastrophic events such as war, natural disaster, or sudden displacement.
To request a Hardship Reserve Seat, please complete our short hardship form. We ask three brief questions:
Your current situation and how it impacts your ability to pay.
How participation in this course would help you at this time.
Whether you have stable enough internet access to attend all sessions.
We review these applications privately and with discretion, and we ask that this option be reserved for those whose circumstances are truly urgent and exceptional.
Award Notifications
Applicants will be notified within 7 days after the application window closes.
